The project involves the interior fit-out of a bakery and a crêperie housed within a medieval building situated in the historic centre of a Swiss village. The presence of load-bearing stone walls, characterised by their considerable thickness and openings proportioned according to historical building principles, forms the main design reference. The intervention is based on a balanced dialogue between the existing structure and contemporary design, achieved through the adoption of a minimalist aesthetic that avoids stylistic imitations, favouring instead a measured contrast between the solidity of the historic shell and the precision of the newly introduced elements.
The bakery takes on a central and defining role, whilst the crêperie introduces a more dynamic and convivial dimension. The two spaces flow seamlessly into one another, maintaining functional and perceptual coherence. The bakery area is organised around a display counter that serves as a focal point, with a wooden-panelled wall behind it enhanced by warm lighting. The preparation area is partially separated by bronze-tinted glass surfaces, which filter the view without compromising the spatial unity.
Similarly, the crêperie is defined by glass partitions that ensure a visual connection with the bakery and create a convivial atmosphere. These elements are designed as light-weight additions that respect the original structure.
The bespoke furnishings ensure formal and functional coherence, integrating display and operational areas. The material palette is based on heat-treated wood, bronze-tinted glass and stone, whilst the adjustable, diffused lighting helps to highlight the materials and products, creating a welcoming and perceptually varied environment.
