Set within the unique historical and architectural context of the Salone della Basilica Palladiana, the exhibition design seeks formal and functional coherence with the space in which it is housed. The longitudinal division of the rectangular floor plan is achieved through a structural element that organises the exhibition route in a rational manner, whilst integrating the necessary air-conditioning systems. The walls perpendicular to the central axis define large exhibition spaces, maintaining a constant visual relationship with the existing architecture whilst ensuring an intimate viewing experience of the works.
The structural design is entirely self-supporting, with careful distribution of loads and supports to preserve the integrity of the floor slab. The colour palette of the exhibition design is deliberately monochromatic, with grey used for all exhibition surfaces and primary beams, contrasting with the darker shade of the skirting on the central walls. The room dedicated to the screening of the documentary film is characterised by a matt black finish.
Lighting plays a key role in defining the spatial and perceptual aspects of the exhibition layout. The deliberately dark setting draws the visitor into an almost theatrical atmosphere, where shadows provide the backdrop for the vibrant emergence of the paintings. Perfectly centred beams of light sculpt the works, revealing a surprising expressive power and an unexpected visual impact.
The result is the fruit of in-depth research into lighting fixtures. The Vincent spotlight was designed specifically for this exhibition and subsequently marketed with technical specifications optimised for museum environments. LED technology, integrated into a die-cast aluminium body, ensures the preservation of the works thanks to the absence of IR and UV emissions and low heat emission. The ability to vary the colour temperature of the white light offers curatorial flexibility. The spotlights also allow for precise framing of the artwork, creating a luminous contrast with the surroundings and enhancing its chromaticity, controlled via a DALI system.
