The building rises in Oderzo, a historic town of Paleovenetian origin, within a context of high archaeological value revealed during the excavations carried out in 2012. This stratification informed the design concept, based on stitching together the historic center and the city entrance: the building is conceived as a gateway to the city. Closed and rigorous on the north side, with a geometric rhythm of solids and voids, it opens to the south onto the inner courtyard, revealing a metal mesh inspired by Roman armor. The bright interiors host museum installations that reinforce the building’s role as a place of memory.
Occupying a 1,500 sqm site, the complex is composed of two volumes: a four-story office block and a two-story volume dedicated to training, including a 90-seat auditorium. The underground level houses technical systems, archives, and parking areas. The seismic-resistant structure is made of reinforced concrete with pile foundations.
The building envelope combines glazed façades, ceramic cladding, and metal panels in ventilated façades; the roofs accommodate terraces, a green roof, and a 70 kW photovoltaic system. Materials, finishes, and interior furnishings were custom-designed.
The new Ascom headquarters is an A4 energy-rated building, characterized by high insulation performance and sustainable solutions. High-efficiency systems include chilled beams in offices, radiant systems for classrooms and the auditorium, geothermal heat pumps, and integrated management via a BMS, ensuring comfort, control, and reduced energy consumption.
