ESCAPOLOGY

Venezia

XVII Biennale di Architettura di Venezia 2021

“But how do I measure time itself? (…) I measure time, I know; but I do not measure the future, which does not yet exist; I do not measure the present, which has no duration; I do not measure the past, which no longer exists.”
Augustine of Hippo, Confessions, Book XI

Escapology
Leaps in scale.
Leaps into the void.
Large and small take on the same value.
The leap in scale erases space.
The leap in scale erases time.
There is no before or after.
A building reveals itself in a detail, an object is incorporated into the design of an elevation, a detail emerges from a 1:5000 scale.
Seamlessly.
A fabric, a material, a fitting, a weave, a chair, spaces, doors, industries, art, drive-ins, homes, fruit, offices, cupboards, bathrooms, light and shadow, kerbs, gardens, façades, furnishings, graphics, craftsmanship, Devils and Saints, pencils, car parks, notebooks, days, masterplans, bags, beams, kitchens, plasterboard, installations, concrete and yet more fabrics, materials, colours, spaces and spaces…
…everything awakens.
Escapology is the story of this simultaneity, a compact confusion.
A silent room.
The exit (or entry) point into parallel dimensions. The projects act upon time and space. Wormholes.
It is not the object that matters, but the method of inquiry.
Which, as with great illusions, cannot be revealed.
